In 2013 the federal Sex Discrimination Act was quietly amended to add protections for transgender people – those with a special “gender identity.” The flow on effect for girls and women has been devastating. Men who say they’re women have been welcomed into women’s sport, women’s toilets and change rooms and even women’s prisons. Wherever a man’s gender identity rights clash with women’s sex based rights, institutions across Australia have sided with men who say they’re women.
In season 2 of Desexing Society, we’ll explore the systemic problems that arise when men are treated as though they’re women under the law. We’ll also look at what happens on a personal level to the wives and children of men who transition.
